Until today, if you are a smaller enterprise or a developer who wanted to try out multicast fusion in Flash Media Enterprise Server, you had two choices:
- Use the free Flash Media Development Server and deal with limited connections and P2P introductions
- Use a pay-as-you-go hosted solution (FMS on AWS or Influxis.com) and configure everything yourself, create your own player, set up broadcast workflow, etc.
MediaPlatform recently announced that it is integrating FMS on AWS with its existing end-to-end webcasting solution, giving you a plug-and-play option for interactive broadcasts. You don’t need to configure your own AMIs on Amazon, or build your own custom applications to support FMES multicast fusion. I’m expecting to see more and more of these all-in-one solutions being built around FMES, allowing for greater access to P2P for those of us without huge budgets. MediaPlatformed based their video player on Open Source Media Framework, which means that other plug-ins can be integrated easily into their service.
Greg Pulier, CTO and Founder of MediaPlatform, describes the problem of media delivery to large organizations and their solution very clearly in this short video (worth the 3 minutes if you can’t quite wrap your head around Multicast Fusion):
