Science fiction is becoming reality with Skype’s new ability to allow people who don’t speak the same language to talk with one another.
This innovation just might be the coolest thing ever. It goes by the name of real-time speech-to-speech translation (although “Babel Fish” would’ve been a much catchier name). Introduced at the first annual CODE Conference, this new technology will be rolled out in future versions of Skype products in beta later this year.
This innovation is being developed by the Skype and Bing teams, along with Microsoft’s Research Lab, which has long been working on natural language processing and machine learning.
