Google just announced that the newest version of Chrome (36) supports WebRTC compliant version of Hangouts.
Why should you care?
Well, it means more people will be using WebRTC (even if they don’t know it)… it also means that Google has been tinkering with the standard code to make this all work, so WebRTC-enable Hangouts are not coming to other browsers just yet.
Philipp Hancke published an in-depth analysis of what they altered and why in his article on WebRTCHacks – “How does Hangouts use WebRTC? a chrome://webrtc-internals analysis“
