Canva releases their iPhone app. Yes, finally!

That feeling when a good day gets even better…

It’s not every day you get a shout-out from Guy Kawasaki himself!

And this morning Canva announced the long-awaited iPhone version of their awesome design app. It does much of what the browser-based version does, but it’s optimized for making quick, beautiful graphics for immediate sharing on social media. As an official “Canva Design & Training Expert” I was lucky enough to get early access to the app last Friday and had the weekend to play with it.

They really did it right, which explains why it took so long to release. The interface is intuitive, for the most part, and it gives you much more control than it seems to at first glance. Here are my favorite killer features:

  • You can take a picture of something live live camera view – with text on top of it! Get exactly the right placement. This is a simple thing, but it’s a game changer.
  • Support for multiple pages in a design
  • You can use spotlight on the iPhone to search for templates that have specific words in them
  • Your designs will sync between desktop and phone. This is great if there is some feature that’s not available on the phone, or if you design something in the browser and then want to take a photo to add to it. This will also keep you from having to email the darn photo to yourself so you can post it to Instagram!
  • It’s free 🙂

Create a design, then take a photo – right inside the Canva app!

For a v1 of an app, I’m really impressed. I can’t wait to see what they do next (i.e. Android, coming soon) and most of all, I’d love to see what you create on the go with Canva! In fact, I’m starting a new hashtag: #CanvaGO — who needs Pokemon?!
